According to residents, there used to be several peacocks roaming the beach area to drink at the mouth of the river, but unfortunately, in the 1980s, the peacock population became extinct due to poaching. Although the peacocks are gone, the name Kondang Merak is still used.

The beach is somewhat mossy and has many coral reefs, sponges and shells. On the beach there are also various starfish such as small octopuses, sea urchin, sea cucumber, small fish or lobster hidden between the corals.

Location and Route of Kondang Merak Beach
Kondang Merak Beach is in Sumberbening Village, Bantur District, Malang Regency, East Java. This beach is about 64 km from the city center of Malang or about 2-hour drive.
Kondang Merak Beach can be reached by two routes: Malang-Kepanjen and Malang-Turen. The first route is from Malang center to Kepanjen, then enters Pagak. After that, you will continue your journey until you reach Bantur District, after being at the Balekambang intersection, take the right direction. You must travel another 4km from the intersection to reach the Kondang Merakbeach.
The second route is from Malang city center to Turen, then enters Gondang Legi. After that, you have to continue the journey until Bantur District. When you arrive at the intersection, follow the instructions as in the first route and finally you will reach the kondang merak beach.
Entrance Fee and Operating Hours
Every visitor who comes will be charged an entrance ticket of IDR 15,000/pax, parking IDR 5000 for motorbikes and IDR 10,000 for cars. With this affordable price you can enjoy the natural beauty of this beach.
Kondang Merak Beach counter is open from 07.00 – 15.00, but for those who want to camp, this place is open 24 hours. You can come early to get an entrance ticket first. After that, you can be on this beach as long as you want.
