“This house was built around the 1960s. Back in the 1960s, my grandparents lived here with 11 children,” said Zakiah.

  1. Tasting the Culinary Fusion of Nusantara and India

Visitors can not only see Dutch colonial house designs but also enjoy a fusion of Indian and Nusantara cuisine. The iconic Indian dish commonly served is Prata.

This Prata dish is made with selected spices and curry leaves picked straight from the tree, accompanied by chicken curry and pickles.

In addition, Nusantara dishes also served include Pangsit Mie Malang, Nasi Goreng Kari Ayam, Mie Godog Jengki, Menjes Goreng, Jemblem Crispy and many more. The combination of dishes served is based on the family background of Zakiah, the owner of Rumah Jengki 976.

“Our family is of Indian origin (from my grandfather’s lineage) and my grandmother is Javanese, so we offer Indian and Javanese Cuisine too. So that’s really all we typically serve,” Zakiah explains.
