MALAYSIA, Tugujatim.id – Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) has just completed a community service program titled “Utilizing Digital Game Media in Arabic Camp Activities to Improve Arabic Language Skills,” held at the An-Nahdloh Islamic Boarding School in Selangor, Malaysia. The program ran from September 16-17, 2024, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Hanik Mahliatussikah, M.Hum.
The event began with an opening ceremony, followed by welcoming speeches from both parties. The Arabic training material included an introduction to Qasidah Burdah, a prominent piece in Islamic history, which was especially relevant as the training took place during the month of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth. Dr. Ibnu Samsul Huda prepared digital game materials using Kahoot and Quizizz to strengthen vocabulary mastery, while Dr. Moch. Wahib Dariyadi, M.Pd., introduced the use of the WordWall application for interactive Arabic writing practice.

In the Arabic Olympiad session, Ilham Fatkhu Romadhon, M.Pd., created various game media and invited the students to compete in a range of language games designed to sharpen their skills in an enjoyable way. The activity concluded with a digital-based speaking skills session led by Amami Shofiya Al Qorin, M.Pd., which challenged the students to communicate in Arabic using the Android application Undercover. This program generated high enthusiasm among the students. “This activity successfully increased the students’ motivation and Arabic language skills through an interactive and enjoyable digital approach,” said Prof. Hanik.

On this occasion, the implementation team also had the opportunity to visit partner campuses in Kuala Lumpur, namely the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI). The visit to IIUM marked an initial exploration of potential collaboration between IIUM and UM.
As a follow-up to this collaboration plan, six Arabic language articles from master’s theses in the Arabic Language Education program were submitted to the 9th International Arabic Language Conference. The highlight of this participation was the selection of two articles as the best research articles, namely those by the teams of Rico Fenda Pradana and Nafisatul Izza R.U. Additionally, the community service team from Universitas Negeri Malang also explored potential collaboration with UPSI, a renowned educational institution in Malaysia.

The meeting resulted in an agreement for collaboration on several academic events, with both UPSI and UM expressing readiness for cooperation, including the exchange of thesis advisors and examiners and serving as speakers for conferences and student academic events. “We see great potential in cross-national education development, and this event is a first step towards opening more opportunities for future collaboration,” added Prof. Hanik. “We hope to continue collaborating to enrich experiences and strengthen relationships between educational institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia.” (adv)
